What People Think
“I learned the ABCs of Psychology and Counselling from the late Rev. Fr. Dr. Fraccid Anthony (O.M.I), former University Senior Lecturer, Clinical Psychologist, and founder of Sahana Medura. I followed his Certificate Course in Counselling and Psychotherapy back in 2012 and was involved in practical work with the psychiatric residents. I was inspired by the spirit of this place and started understanding the dignity and value of the 'person’ who exists within these individuals despite their illness. This conviction drove me to contribute more with the skills and knowledge I acquired as it also helped me to grow professionally as well as personally. Over the years, Sahana Medura has undergone a huge transformation and improved for the betterment of all those who seek help there. I invite everyone, regardless of your religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or any other difference, to come and enjoy the richness of this place. In addition to those who suffer from mental trauma, Sahana Medura is also open to anyone who wants help with their day-to-day problems like issues with family, studies, occupation and so forth. Sahana Medura is ready to provide Individual Counselling, Couples Counselling, Family Therapy, Group Counselling and many other psychological services through prior appointment. You can support this institute not only financially and materially but also through simpler activities like visiting this place and spending time with the residents to make them happy. ”

Every day I come to Sahana Medura in the morning and evening to administer medicine to over twenty of the residents. The residents are taken for weekly checkups to the Ja Ela hospital, in order to get the necessary prescription medicine. Because of the COVID-19 situation, it has become rather difficult to finance the medical needs of the residents and Fr. Presanna has even used his own private funds in order to ensure that the residents receive the proper medication. Sahana Medura is the only hope of some of the residents as they have been abandoned by their families and friends. I am happy that I am able to help them in some way.”

Sahana Medura was recommended to us by a friend and we decided to send my elder brother there as we thought that better care would be provided for him there. He has been at Sahana Medura for over five years now and I am happy to say that he has been taken care of very well. I visit him at least thrice a month and attend any events that are held there. Because of Sahana Medura I have no worries regarding my brother since I can see that he is being treated with such kindness. I am very grateful to all those at Sahana Medura who work to take care of the residents and I have a deep bond with this peaceful place.”
